- about the project
Description
Join us on a powerful visual journey through Newark alongside Ecuadorian artist Layqa Nuna Yawar. This project allowed me to document not only his most emblematic murals—including his striking work at Newark Liberty International Airport—but also the living dialogue between art, migration, and identity in a city shaped by diaspora.
Through his exhibition La Voz del Anonimato at Project for Empty Space, I explored stories of Indigenous artists whose voices were erased from history, while Minga y Memoria revealed how a new generation of U.S.-born Latinos is actively reclaiming ancestry, memory, and cultural pride. Being part of these spaces was a reminder that art is not static—it moves, teaches, and builds community.
This piece reflects my approach to storytelling: immersive, community-centered, and rooted in history—capturing how culture survives, evolves, and resists in everyday urban life.
Art, community, and resistance—on every corner of Newark.
